On this blessed occasion of the birth of Imam Al-Sajjad (as), I wanted to share this beautiful poem recited by a man by the name of Al-Farazdaq. During the time of the Imam (as), the ruler Hisham ibn Abdul-Malik visited Makkah and was hoping to touch Al-Hajar Al-Aswad (the black rock). However, since it was busy during the time of hajj, he was unable to do so. Seeing the circumstances, his bodyguards set up a tent for the ruler to rest and watch the pilgrims perform hajj. A while later, Imam Zain Al-Abideen (as) entered, and was able to reach Al-Hajar Al-Aswad with ease. This was because, upon seeing the Imam enter, the pilgrims parted, the same way the ocean parted for Prophet Musa (pbuh). The bodyguards of Hisham were stunned at this sight, and asked Hisham if he knew of this person who was able to reach the Kaaba with ease. However, Hisham pretended as though he was unaware of who this holy figure was, stating ‘I don’t know, who is he?’. Al-Farazdaq was close by and heard Hisham’s statement, to which he recited this beautiful poem that was witnessed by all the pilgrims, putting Hisham in a state of shame and humiliation. #islam #shia #fyp
