I never prepared in the fall for winter when my kids were young—I scrambled the night before the 1st ski day and paid the price. I’ve learned that skiing with kids is an ART, and two key aspects make a world of difference:

 ✨Supporting emotionally
 ✨Gear that fits & functions

The two are inextricably linked, and the number 1 thing we’ll do to prepare for ski season right now? TRY GEAR ON. Jackets, layers, mittens, boots, skis, helmets… does it fit? Does it function? If not, act now—don’t wait until the night before!

On that note, @stio is 40% off today, including winter gear with my code KATYROBIN-F2440 !

My content often centers on how to emotionally support kids, so they find joy and connection in the outdoors. It’s my jam. But I also dive into the gear since the two are linked. I’m preparing a Kids’ Ski Gear Guide. Stay tuned. For now, here is my advice: Put that clothing and gear on and walk around in it—skis and boots too! It helps so much, and the kids have fun. Go through hand-me-downs, check boot buckles & bindings. Are they broken? Is the mitt zipper stuck? Does the jacket have enough space for layers without feeling claustrophobic? Kids grow fast- you can’t assume any gear from last year fits. Nothing is more discouraging than getting out of the car that first day, only for your child to declare, “It’s too tight!”

Can’t wait for the gear guide? Here are a few quick recs:

Clothing: I support brands I use and trust that also prioritize sustainability and non-toxic waterproofing. Our favs are @Stio Outdoor Apparel @Reima @roarsome —they use recycled materials and make high-quality gear! Love the Stio Rafferty Jacket & Pants and REIMA’S Reimatec line. Doug and I love our Stio Environ Ski kits.

Skis & Boots: Our family is on Blizzard Tecnica gear, and we love it! Their kid selection is fantastic, and they have great resale value. My kids say their ski boots are the comfiest they’ve ever had. I love my Mach 1 boots and all my B/T skis. DM me with questions!

Walkie Talkies: We all use @Milo . It’s been a game changer on the mountain. DM me for a link! I’m in love.

 I could go on, and I will—in my guide! #skiingwithkids #winteriscoming #skikids
