Madeira has a short runway. If they have a touchdown too far on the runway. There is not enough runway to have a normal break. Therefor they do a go around.

Thats called a go around, touch and go is when you go full toga as soon as you touch down, to practice landings, this us not done on airliners

Happened to me too when in Madeira. Winds are super strong and they prefer to be safe. There is another landing area from a different angle and they will try that one.
