I heard somewhere once the theory that the pictures were possibly taken so that (one of) the girls could see where they were in the dark from the flash. They were lost and trying to find their wayback

Last October I was in Panama and I did the exact same hike (with a guide). The case really kept me and my friend awake during the trip, I still have no clue what could have happened to the girls 😢
