A 2-hour jazz cruise on board the last paddleship of the Mississippi River. The Steamboat Natchez is a revival of a long line of riverboats used for transportation of cotton bales up and down the Mississippi. The last version of this steamboat owned by the previous company burned in the late 1800s, a few decades after the Civil War ended. This version you sail on was built in 1975, but the engine is from a good 45 years prior (approximately). The thing about New Orleans is that it acknowledges its history and how slavery touched every aspect of society. Steamboats were part of the infrastructure and logistics used to help make the South an economic power house, for a time. The tour acknowledges this and points out how the Mississippi was critical for commerce between the North and the South. Covering a large area, they also point out former plantations as well as old Civil War battlefields, factories and the levees that are supposed keep New Orleans from flooding, many failing during the 2005 hurricane. I only paid for the ride, but there is dining availability for lunch and dinner. Bars on every floor actually make for a fun and vibrant evening and they even allow you to go into the engine room to see how it all works #neworleans #visitneworleans #neworleanshistory #neworleanstravel #neworleanstrip #lovenola #loveneworleans #travelblogger #voyagevoyage #uktravelblogger #travelguide #travelitinerary #travelblogger #traveltiktok #solotravel #travelvlog #traveldiaries Things to do in New Orleans | New Orleans trip | New Orleans guide | New Orleans activities | New Orleans itinerary | New Orleans Louisiana | Weekend trip ideas | travel inspiration New Orleans | Mississippi River Cruise
