Absolutely true - my brother and I have vastly different memory of how “happy” our childhoods were with the same parent, who treats us differently to this day.

My oldest brother was 18 when I was born. I was the youngest of 6. He had younger, active parents. I grew up with older, uninvolved parents who were kind of done raising kids at that point.

Yep! My parents spoiled my brother rotten and I was the one that they were harder on because I’m a female. In our culture, men are spoiled more.

My siblings are 12 and 13 years older than me and the first time my therapist told me we didn’t grow up with the same house with the same parents my mind was blown. It helped me heal so much

I’m older than my little brother and he was raised differently than me because I’m a girl and he’s a boy. He was allowed to do things that I wasn’t. Telling my dad this as an adult he does feel a little bad about it.

I’m the youngest of 5 with 4 older brothers. We all had a different childhood and each have a different view of our parents. It’s so true, my parents neglected other kids and favored others more.

Absolutely. I am the oldest daughter. My brother is the baby and the only boy. He’s my mother’s golden child. He and I were raised by a completely different mother.

We were fraternal twins, and we definitely did not grow up in the same household. Completely different experiences

It’s a weird concept but it’s true. My brothers were treated very different then the girls

I'm an accident child so my whole life my parents treated me with resentment while my 3 older siblings were treated like royalty. I think my whole life is just healing from that.

If you have two parents who were completely checked out, never set rules or boundaries, disappointed you in all the same ways, I’d argue they were more like the same parents than not

This hit really hard. I was raised as the black sheep in the shadow of the golden child. Completely altered, defined, and in many ways destroyed who I am as a person.

my sister and are 5 years apart and we are completely different. She's like my parents with old values and culturally programed. This post resonates with many.

I have told my older sister that we did not have the same mom. She is 9 years older. She never understands. Hence we don’t speak much.
