Lasers are regulated by the FDA in the US not really a law more of suggestion. They are completely legal for sale, but there are laws about what you can and can’t do with it

The legality of a laser device isn't determined by its name but by its classification. Class 3B and 4 lasers, regardless of whether they're called "pointers" or "torches," remain illegal in the US

100mW isn't the optical output power it's the power consumption to operate. Also the key switch is so you don't kill the battery in your pocket. For reference its illegal to point any color of LaSER at aircraft or vehicles.

we have one and use it to point out stars, constellations, satellites (not at the satellites but around them) makes it so much easier than trying to discribe where they are 😆
