Giraffes can be vulnerable to attack in this position, so they should survey their surroundings before committing to a drink. And then there's the issue of blood pressure. To pump enough blood to their dizzy brains, giraffes have very high blood pressure, which they seem to be able to control when they lower their heads to drink. Finally, there is the challenge of ingesting water.
