@solesontech: Replying to @JL Job levels matter a ton and I tend to heavily weight level as one of the most important factors when choosing between job offers. Hard decision when deciding between level and pay though. Its a short term vs long term play imo. #paytransparency #salarytransparency #offerevaluation #joboffer #techtok #techindustry
I was a full stack engineer at a small company for 3 years, and I am taking a gap job for 9 months as an AI dev, do you think I should look for Ai dev jobs or fullstack jobs next? I'm a little unsure

100% agree. If you’re paid at the top of your salary band it pushes your compa-ratio higher and almost guarantees that you won’t get significant bonuses (cash and/or RSUs) regardless of performance.

You shouldn’t be concerned about terminal levels. Always be on the path to principal and go to the place with the best comp philosophy. Offer 1 ic6 makes 525+, offer 2 will not give ic7 500.

Not all companies leveling structures are 1:1. Plenty of places hand out staff levels and it’s meaningless/doesn’t improve your value on the job market

I took a down level from director of a 300person public to a sr level 2 of a 225k person public company. With a 100k TC raise and pension. Terminal just means wait for market to shift and bounce.

Couldn’t you be targeted during layoffs tho? Feel like it makes more sense to keep the senior that makes less than the level below

But the hack is if you level back up from IC5 to IC6 again, the bump will be way higher than a merit cycle based increase - if you can poker with some good backhand, good route #beenthere

What would be the mix in a total compensation is it salary + bonus + stock or salary + stock?

Downleveling for similar pay is objectively a plus, easier to get a promotion and get a fatter pay bump. Just check your ego at the door and don't care so much
