@intrepiditalian: ❌Don’t be FOOLED! ❌ 6 English terms used in Italian that mean something completely different! Andiamo! 1) Far west: When this term is used, it’s intended to mean the same thing as “wild west.” 2) Box: Usually, box is used in Italian to mean “stall” of some sort. A ‘box doccia’, is a shower stall, a ‘box auto’ is a garage or enclosed parking space. It can also mean playpen. 3) Toast: In Italian, toast means a toasted sandwich. If you want the English version, you’d say ‘pane tostato’ - toasted bread. 4) Slip: In Italian, the noun slip refers to underpants of any kind. To refer to the undergarment worn under dresses or skirts, you’d say ‘sottana.’ 5) Smoking: In Italian, this word refers to a tuxedo. 6) Golf: Italians use the word ‘golf’ to refer to the sport, but it also refers to a light sweater, like what you’d wear playing golf. It's not"sottana" I believe you meant "sottoveste". Sottana is an old word for skirt, but it's not used anymore, I'd say it has almost disappeared
