❤️‍🩹Cancer is trauma. Full stop. 👉🏻The diagnosis is traumatic. 👉🏻Treatment is traumatic — whether it’s aggressive treatment, minimal treatment, long-term treatment, or even choosing no treatment at all. 👉🏻Just knowing cancer exists inside your body and trying to survive it can be deeply traumatic. 🌟There’s the physical, iatrogenic (medical) trauma — the surgeries, medications, procedures, side effects, and all the ways your body is pushed, cut, altered, and forced to endure. 🌟There’s the mental and emotional trauma — the fear, the heaviness, the constant uncertainty, the grief, the anxiety, and the reality of facing your own mortality. 🌟There’s the relational trauma — watching the people you love feel scared, helpless, or overwhelmed by the possibility of losing you. 🌟And there’s the spiritual trauma — the way cancer can shake your identity, your beliefs, your sense of safety, purpose, and meaning. No one could ever convince me cancer isn’t traumatic. Not personally. Not professionally. 🔆As a clinical psychologist, I can tell you that if cancer feels huge, heavy, overwhelming, or like it left you with depression, PTSD, anxiety, fear, or grief… you are not imagining it. Your experience is real and valid. 🫶🏻Healing is possible. But it often takes time, support, deep work, and a whole lot of grace for yourself along the way.🙏🏻 🔆Comment SURVIVAL GUIDE for my Breast Cancer Emotional Survival Guide. ❓How has cancer felt traumatic for you?
