The adorable newcomer was introduced to the public on July 25 and has quickly become a favourite among visitors. . The zoo held a special event allowing visitors to vote on the baby's name, with the options being "Moo Deng", "Moo Daeng", or "Moo Sab". More than 20,000 tourists including children participated in the vote. Moo Deng, which means pork patty, emerged as the winning name. . Pygmy hippos are similar in appearance to their larger relatives, the common hippopotamus, but are much smaller, roughly one-tenth the size. . In the wild, there are fewer than 3,000 pygmy hippos left, while around 350 are kept in zoos worldwide. In Thailand, pygmy hippos can be found at Khao Kheow Open Zoo and Chiang Mai Zoo, where successful breeding programmes help conserve this rare species. .
