Things I wish I did different postpartum❤️‍🩹 1. Ask for more help. I spent so much time trying to prove to myself that I could do it all on my own. Looking back, I was overwhelmed and carrying more than I needed to. The people who loved me wanted to help. I just wish I had let them more than I did. 2. Give myself more grace with breastfeeding. With a colicky baby, tongue ties, weekly lactation appointments, and physical therapy, breastfeeding became something I fought so hard to make work. I was incredibly passionate about it and determined not to give up. But I became so focused on making breastfeeding successful that I forgot to take care of myself, too. Looking back, I wish I had known that my worth as a mother was never tied to how I fed my baby. Fed is best. Always. 3. Prioritize getting outside. The house felt like it constantly needed me, but the dishes and laundry could have waited. I was scared to leave the house because he hated the car, and honestly, it made my anxiety worse. Looking back, I wish I had put him in the carrier more, gone on more walks, and soaked up more fresh air and sunshine. He wasn’t going to overheat, and it was okay if he cried on the way to our destination. Getting out more would have been good for both of us. 4. Make time for myself without guilt. I’m so attached to my baby and was so anxious about leaving him that I didn’t take care of myself as much as I hoped. I never wanted to burden anyone else with all of his crying. And I honestly didn’t want to miss out on a single second. I wish I had gone to more workout classes, scheduled more self-care appointments, taken more breaks, and remembered that taking care of myself wasn’t taking away from him. It was helping me show up as a better mom. 5. Trust my mom intuition. This is the biggest one. In those early months, I asked everyone for advice because I was so anxious and I just wanted him to not be so fussy. Around month four, I realized I know my baby better than anyone else. Every baby is different, and every family is different. I wish I had trusted myself and my husband right away and felt more confident doing what worked for us. If you’re reading this and you’re currently in the thick of postpartum, I want you to know you’re doing an incredible job. Your baby is so lucky to have you. The hard days won’t last forever, and one day you’ll look back and realize just how strong you were through it all. 🤍 I wouldn’t trade a second of it and I’d give anything to have those newborn snuggles again. It gets easier. You’ve got this🫶 #postpartum #postpartumjourney #firsttimemom #mom #motherhood
