@meowmydearest: Replying to @🩷 I just wanted to bounce off your comment with a new video because I think there are a lot of important things to talk about here! While lowering protein has been shown to ease stress on the kidneys during later stages of CKD, it doesn’t outright cause it. Cats are obligate carnivores afterall and designed to eat lots of protein! Along with lack of hydration a big factor in the development of kidney disease is excess phosphorus. Phosphorus is an essential and necessary nutrient found in many things, protein included, but too much is not a good thing, and can lead to kidney issues as well as bladder crystals. Unfortunately fish like tuna contains a lot of it along with some other problematic things which is why many people, including myself, heavily limit the amount of fish our cats eat along with their high moisture diets. Edit: My info re: quail eggs has been corrected! They are NOT nearly as high in phosphorus as I previously thought so I will be incorporating them into Bitsy’s diet as well since there are so many great benefits to them. #catfood #catnutrition #cathealth #catcare #phosphorus #ckdcat #catkidneydisease #whatifeedmycat #caturinaryhealth #struvitecrystals #catdiet #kidneydisease #CKD #catfoodtips #cattips

I switched my cat to a low phosphorus diet after he was diagnosed with kidney issues almost two years ago - recent bloodwork shows there’s been zero advancement of his kidney issues. He’s doing great!

I’ve learned to do my own research because when my senior kitty was diagnosed with ckd, they wanted me to put her back on kibble, specifically hills science

My cat is picky and only wants fancy feast. I started to mix in tiki cat but I can’t get him to eat other foods besides fancy feast. Any tips?

Also! My cat only really liked fish and we didn't know the risks so we only fed her fish and she developed hyperthyroidism. Lots of reasons to feed fish sparingly

I have a 14yo (approx) that has been fed human grade chicken for the 12yrs we have been together. The last vet checkup said her blood works came in much healthier than they should be for a cat her age

dietitian here, this is generally the same for humans too! but in humans the worst culprit is Phos from Phos additives used in food processing. the additive absorb at 99% while whole foods 5-40% 🐱

Thanks so much for the extra info! You’re right, that’s exactly what my vet said so I guess it’s an old belief.

So does your kitty with CKD primarily eat Rawz as the base with a small amount of the Weruva Wx? My girl just got diagnosed and she's been on Instinct, but my vet is recommending Hills Kidney care
