this is objectively not true. in the case of hedge funds yes. but private equity on average out performs S&P by 3-5%, much more than their fees

More companies are staying private longer and companies are being taken back private. As the S&P continues to become more concentrated, I would argue that alternative investments play a key role.

That’s just not accurate though. I’ve sat next to bond RV traders who make 20% every year (albeit by using incredible amounts of leverage) w/ almost no volatility.

cap group, odyssey funds, and a select few others consistently outperform the indexes. find funds with high investment from the $ managers and bottom 25% cost in their category consistently outperform

SP500 for 99.999999% of people. But there’s a very select few who do know the markets, just they keep nearly all of the profit from that knowledge through fees (understandably)
