READ ME🔍 733 sisterlocks. 3 inches of new growth. 11 hour self-retightening. I let my hair grow for 3 months (12 weeks) without a full retightening. Around week 6 I did manage to do the perimeter of my hairline to give a more refreshed look. But what was behind that manicured edge was inches of new growth growing faster than pesky weeds. Let this be a cautionary tale. The recommended schedule for retightenings is every 5-8 WEEKS depending on your consultant, what stage of your locking journey you’re in, how quickly your hair grows, etc. The longer your hair + longer your new growth = the longer the retightening. Always listen to your certified consultant/loctician. I love sharing my journey but my routine is not the end-all-be-all. They’re the ones who see your hair and can provide you invaluable knowledge! If you self retighten like me (I have been doing so for 9+ years which is likely why I was able to repair + retighten my hair in just 11 hours on my own), I strongly recommend adding your retightenings to your calendar and setting reminders. Yes, knowing how to self retighten gives your the freedom to do your hair when you want and suffer the consequences of more hair growth later if you choose to deviate from your schedule lol. But if you want to keep your locs as strong as possible, minimize retightening time, and avoid combining locs out of necessity (this retightening I combined 10 & went from 738 locs to 733), stay on top of you retightenings. The key takeaway is to STAY ON TOP OF YOUR RECOMMEND RETIGHTENING SCHEDULE! Also, probably a better idea to do your retightenings when your hair isn’t curled but oh well 🤪 Video tutorial on how I self-retighten, what tool I use, my rotation: in my 🔗 FAQs: 1. How many locks do you have? 733 locs. 2. How long have you had your sisterlocks? 14 years. 3. How long is your hair? Waist length. 4. Have you dyed your hair before? Yes, 4 times. 5. Who is your consultant? My sisterlocks were established by @natural3602020 on IG . . . . #sisterlocks #sisterlocs #locs #retwist #retightening #hairoftheday #naturalhair #locjourney #loclivin #sisterlocksinstallation #locnation #naturalhaircommunity #naturalhairjourney
