A little more information on how dentistry works here in the UK 🇬🇧 personally we opted for private dental insurance so I have no experience on waiting times for dental appointments, but I did a bit of research to do a comparison for those who are interested to know. If you personally have experience with waiting times and services , please do share in the comments 🫶🏼 So in the UK, dentistry services are provided through both the National Health Service (NHS) and private practices. NHS Dentistry: The NHS offers dental care that is subsidized by the government, making it more affordable for the general public. Treatments under the NHS are divided into three charge bands: Band 1 (£26.80): Covers examinations, diagnosis, advice, and basic procedures like X-rays and scaling. Band 2 (£73.50): Includes everything in Band 1 plus additional treatments like fillings, root canals, and tooth extractions. Band 3 (£319.10): Covers all treatments in Bands 1 and 2, plus more complex procedures like crowns, dentures, and bridges. Unfortunately though NHS dentists often have long waiting lists due to high demand and limited availability. Private Dentistry: Patients can choose to receive dental care privately, which is not subsidized by the government. Private dentistry typically offers shorter waiting times, more advanced treatments, and sometimes a wider range of services. The costs of private dental care vary significantly depending on the practice and the type of treatment. For example: Routine check-up: £20-£120 Filling: £40-£250 Root canal: £100-£1,000 Crowns: £400-£1,500 Private Dental Insurance: Many people opt for private dental insurance to help manage these costs. These policies vary in coverage and price but typically include routine check-ups, cleanings, and a portion of more expensive treatments like fillings and crowns. Monthly premiums range from around £25 per person or more, depending on the level of coverage. So for us as a family of 4, the cost is around £70 pm. Hope this was helpful. Stay tuned for results from my visit and at home whitening 🤩 #southafrican #livinginuk #livingabroad #ExpatLife #dentistry #nhs
