£600 for every 1000 bricks laid, an average house has 12000 and the average bricklayer should be able to lay 500-600 bricks a day so you all do the math bricklaying is not a bad career choice

It is true though. GCSES change your whole career , failed all mine and went into a multi skill , joinery plastering and bricklaying. Didn’t need a whole lot of maths just the basics basically -

Got an electrical apprentice at 16 in 1998 and I wasn’t great at school, below average grades. Been in work in ever since and been consistently earning over 60k per year for as long.

school environment is not for all students, some better learn by doing not just reading books, so yeah gcse is not the end but make sure you have minimum math and English gcse and if possible have IT

It’s probably quite fun inside a heated and cooled workshop but outside in the rain waking up at 6am and going home at 5 in the winter won’t be so fun

Why is everyone so judgemental in the comments, not everyone was smart in school and Atleast they won’t be 60K in debt from Uni. They learn valuable life skills and probably run there own firm one day

All u hating on bricklayers would never hate on accountants. I've done both my bricklaying apprenticeship and I'm abt to do my accountancy one. Both require the same amount to start 🤡

Wish I’d known how well trades pay when I was in school. Doing an apprenticeship would have been so much better for me than any kind of academic career. School makes out that it’s not a good option
