Many Ikea furniture has the same set of hardware. It is cheaper to use those same prepackaged bags than to make a bag specially for that type of furniture.

if you buy two of it and want to install them side by side this part is used as connector. ikea cannot know before how many pieces you buy so they put the connector in every set
