LIKE WHATTT Alien Romulus is genuinely a fantastic movie. People are so ready to be hateful that they refuse good art.

I wanted to like Romulus so bad, but it just didn’t work for me. The first half I loved, but it just turned into a neverending reference-fest for the second half. It was a baffling nosedive to me.

This movie has firmly placed itself that AI lifeforms are a valid lifeform.

Just because it’s not cramming in a million ideas like Prometheus and covenant doesn’t mean it’s about nothing. It was refreshing to have a more straightforward thematic scale like the original two

I think the criticism of Alien: Romulus being a reference-fest is astounding. Like, this is the same universe across all films. You're telling me that WY wouldn't be harvesting Xenomorph DNA??? Bruh

the problem with audiences imo, is that most people's opinions don't come from them and it's obvious. they're generally regurgitating something a tiktoker/YouTuber said word for word.

I feel like a big part of this movie was also the human element. Andy is told to "help" the humans by making the cold rational decisions, but the humans constantly are willing to sacrifice themselves

that's what is so frustrating about this movie, all of those cool themes and character developments are buried behind tons and tons of fan service

To me AI, Robots, etc etc aren’t the villain. They are never the villain. We’ve been debating this since Frankenstein. If something turns against you there’s always a reason why.

Disagree with the lack of messaging. It was interesting to see how the 2nd generation humans would be affected by this regime. The treatment of Andy was also interesting! Meaning his humanity!

i loved how this was a refresh/reintroduction to the franchise, sure it didn’t do anything that NEW but i loved for what it is because of how simple it was, it was an alien film at its core.

I’m always confused when we get a reboot/refresh/reintroduction fans get annoyed for it being that. Sure it’s a vaild criticism but the product isn’t for you because you’re already a fan

i think you brought more thought to the film than the screenwriters did, unfortunately

„Alien Romulus“ is the only „Alien“-movie I ever watched & I really liked it. 🤷🏻‍♀️(I also watched & liked „Prey“ but Idk if they’re connected.)

Valid takes. For me each alien film finds a way to push the envelope on body horror/bodily autonomy and/or existential dread. Romulus just didn’t explore anything new in that department.

A HUGE theme of the Alien series is how we treat our creations- Androids- versus how our creators treated us- The Engineers. It’s about the ethics of creation and science. Andy’s character was 10/10

Look, let it be known that I *did* like this movie. It has themes, they’re just not very different ones from what the franchise has talked about before. Anti-capitalist stuff is kinda just a package deal with Alien. You’re right in that it does include these things, I just think they’re incredibly undercooked in this one and that kind of thing is not Alvarez’s wheelhouse when it comes to writing.
