In 1872, the citizens of Orlando built Orange County Public School #1 directly over the graveyard until 1891 when it was condemned. In 1893, the Baptist Church purchased the land and built its first sanctuary on the site.   During the construction of the church, forgotten graves were revealed and allegedly removed by the city and re-interred in Greenwood Cemetery.  It is likely that residual energy causes strange phenomena due to remains still dwelling beneath these buildings.  Allegedly, graves were removed by the city and re-interred in Greenwood Cemetery.
