Making the invisible visible is probably the most fun experiment you can set up for your kids 🥳 You can find this awesome waterproof Bluetooth speaker and what we used to make the water shimmery in my Augst Favourite board in my Amazon Australia storefront! Sound waves are invisible to the eye but this experiment allows your kids to see that they indeed exist and travel through air. You can also use this experiment to explain to your kids that your eardrum works the same as the cling wrap (explanation is below). For this experiment you need: • a glass bowl • cling wrap • a small portable Bluetooth speaker with great bass sound • different types of small, lightweight materials such as rice, lentils, sugar and drops of shimmery liquid (do not use flour as it likes to tick to the cling wrap 😉) Follow the steps in the reel to set up the experiment! And use a silicon mat underneath the glass bowl to catch all the little bits that dance off the cling wrap. The speaker releases sound waves which are caught by the cling wrap and which make it vibrate. The stronger the bass, the more it vibrates. The eardrum in your ear is a thin membrane, just like the cling wrap. The outer ear catches the sound waves and leads them through the ear canal to the ear drum. When the sound waves hit the ear drum, it vibrates and sets the little bones right behind the eardrum in motion. These bones amplify the sound and activate the nerve endings in the inner ear which transform the sound waves into electrical impulses that then travel to the brain. It’s a very fascinating process and clever progress.
