One of the major disputes among them is the East China Sea dispute. This sea has a group of islands named the Diaoyu Islands in China and the Senkaku Islands in Japan. Both countries are in a fight over these islands in the sea. The problem got worse in 2012 when it was found that the islands had huge oil and gas reserves underneath. Japan says no one ruled the islands until 1895 and that's when Japan took control. But China says they owned the islands before that.
