However, her father, József, was an abusive alcoholic who was jealous and paranoid about the family's success. As Judith's career blossomed, József's behavior became more erratic, including threats to k*ll both Judith and Maria. Maria thought of going to authorities and leaving József, but she ultimately stayed out of fear.
