🧠 In my last post I talked about how, as humans, we're generally pretty bad at being logical. There are a ton of cognitive biases that affect our financial decision-making. But while it's important to understand and identify cognitive biases, I want to make it clear that I don't think decisions should be JUST about the money. Here are 2 decisions I stand by that weren’t all that financially optimal: 1️⃣ Paying off my car upfront instead of taking out a loan: I purchased my used car (#TeamHonda) in 2021 for about $9k 🚗 At the time, I was getting a really low loan rate. It might have been smarter to take the loan & invest the extra cash into the stock market (or even into Series I Saving Bonds, which had a guaranteed return of 7.12% between Nov 2021 & Apr 2022) 🤔 And yet, I chose to pay the entire amount upfront, because I knew that having my car paid off would grant me immense peace of mind. 2️⃣ Sticking with my job even though I could make more money elsewhere: Without getting into too much detail, I ended up receiving lower pay at my 9-5 than I was verbally promised during the sign-on negotiations. This was partially my fault for not clarifying things & advocating for myself, but that’s a story for another day. I seriously considered job hopping at that point, but decided to wait. While I probably would have been able to make more at a different job, it wasn't just about making as much money as possible. I still make more than enough to support myself & my financial goals, the pay-to-effort ratio at my current job is good, & the low-stress culture allowed me to focus on hobbies like @organized.finance 👀 💭 Have you ever made a decision that wasn't super financially optimal, but that ended up being right for you? #goals #personalfinance #finance #womenwhoinvest #investing #invest #investingforbeginners #millenialmoney #travel #creditcards #points #richlife #save #womenandmoney #budget #budgettools #creditscore #financialindependence #journeytofire #financialgoals #debtfreecommunity #millionairemindset #frugal #firecommunity #wealthbuilding #financialfreedom
