If you have a scrawny back… Back training is one of the most butchered, misunderstood, and difficult areas to grow. If you feel like you train your back hard, but you’re not seeing the results you want, this is why. 1️⃣ You lack full range of motion You lift too heavy on all your back exercises, so you never take the muscle through a full range of motion. If needed, lower the weight and give the muscle a full stretch and full contraction if you want to grow. For example, here on the lat pulldown, I’m thinking of pulling my elbows to my hips on the way down and bringing my shoulders to my ears on the way up. 2️⃣ You neglect your back You put more focus on your chest, biceps, and shoulders (the show muscles). But you just go through the motions when you are training back. When the reality is, if you want a well developed physique, having a bigger back will be more helpful than having a bigger chest. Make sure you hit your back with enough volume (preferably 2x per week). 3️⃣ You’re training intensity is 💩 You don’t train anywhere close to failure and you train with a bunch of junk volume (empty sets), you don’t use straps/chalk with heavy rows and pulls, and you don’t put any effort into progressive overloading. When choosing the right exercises, don’t just choose exercises that you can “feel” your back, choose the right ones that help you progressive overload and grow properly. Let’s grow!
