but isn't that big pattern for full length pants? If your making shorts you shouldn't need the full length and the fabric should work

i dont think you're supposed to cut the actual pattern paper..that way you can't really reuse it if you want to make something else. instead buy some transparent paper and transfer the pattern you-

Big piece of advice that helped me is to make more complicated pieces in muslin/calico/any cheap fabric first. Helps you learn and perfect the fit.

Material Difference :
Make sure you prewash the fabric for clothing cos it usually shrinks a bit on the first wash!
