Five months of Dead Dad Club. I thought I was coping quite well actually, but the realization that he’s gone forever has really been hitting home. Maybe it’s the fact it’s Christmas, and he won’t be here to be in charge of carving the Turkey, or make inappropriate jokes round the table, or give his customary post dinner speech - or maybe it’s the fact that he was my anchor who kept me grounded and safe no matter the storm and his absence has left me flailing in the wind like a loose sail. I miss him at the core of my very being. But I’m eternally thankful that we got to spend those few precious weekends together during the last 14 months of his life, making these music videos. In a time of such darkness, such fear and such suffering, it gave us momentary respite from the looming reality of death. It was one of the few times during his illness that he disconnected from his fate and went back to the person he was pre diagnosis, doing what he loved best - being creative and making people laugh. So I share this now as an ode to my Dad and to anyone out there about to navigate the festive period missing a loved one.
