Here are THREE innovations I discovered in the Netherlands transforming how we create energy and protect nature! First, I met Pauline Van Dongen at @Dutch Design Week | DDW who’s developed a fabric that has thin solar cells weaved into it, allowing it to generate electricity whilst it shades people from heat. Applying Heliotex’s shade textile makes the perceived temperature be lowered by 9-15 degrees! Next I visited Rotterdam where RoffaReefs have developed a floating system designed to help save coral reefs by breeding marine fish right above the reef itself! They catch fish eggs during spawning seasons, when sometimes only 2% survive in the wild. So instead, the larvae grow in a solar-powered system that protects them from predators while they develop. This gives them a more than 25x better survival rate! It's being tested in Bonaire right now and could help restore reef fish populations that are vital for keeping coral healthy by grazing away harmful algae. And then I visited The Hague to discover a wave energy converter that captures the horizontal movement of waves to generate electricity, and it's twice as efficient as traditional systems! Unlike other wave energy devices that use up-and-down motion, Weco Energy’s system uses belts that roll and unroll with the waves, creating torque that powers a generator. The worldwide potential of wave energy could power three billion households, and solutions like this can help us get there. These innovations are all part of #NewDutch, a movement of Dutch innovators and problem-solvers working on the world's biggest challenges in energy, sustainability, and beyond. The same country that built windmills is now engineering solutions for our planet's future. Tap like to hear about more groundbreaking solutions, and let me know in the comments what country I should visit next! #goodnews #netherlands #cleanenergy #Sustainability
