@reuzelofficial: SWINGING SIXTIES If there is ONE pivotal moment in my career it must have been the day that I understood the genius of Vidal Sassoon… You read that right, it wasn’t my discovery of Vidal, at first I couldn’t care less about this “hairdresser” and what I thought were stupid bowl-cuts… I wanted to do the cool stuff, pomps, quiffs and mohawks… It was after my first mentor “forced” me to learn about classic hairdressing (I hated it) that I (very slowly) came to appreciate the extremely technical art of cutting hair and now, almost 50, I realize that that mentor that I despised turned out to be one the most important people in my life giving it the direction I didn’t know I was looking for… It actually took me a few years more and moving to Rotterdam to develop the unquenchable thirst for hair-history-knowledge and it were my friends @haidy.mark that I ended up working for that pushed me into creative freedom I never knew I had in me… They were obsessed with Vidal and infected me and that’s how I learned about fireflies, graduated bobs and of course the holy grail, the FIVE-POINT haircut he gave dame Mary Quant, the famous British fashion designer who is considered one of the “inventors” of the miniskirt and hotpants that not only changed the street scene forever but gave power and confidence to young women before imprisoned in the pre-war conservative stranglehold of staying at home… “Vidal saw that, like architecture, hair could be cut into shapes and textures that not only flattered the character and texture of the hair, but projected the best qualities of the head and face, pointing out the cheekbones and focusing on the eyes, and making the maximum impact on the individuality of the face and personality,” -Mary Quant- As the hair got shorter, the skirts got shorter (or vice versa) giving a (proverbial) freedom of movement, times were changing and they were changing fast, every model was sporting “A VIDAL” and after Mia Farrow’s short pixie cut in Rosemary’s baby that Vial cut on set women world wide were cutting their hair short freeing themselves of the set beauty standards… (Ironically, men’s hair grew longer, a huge blow to the barbershops) MODEL: @Xann POTOGRAPHY: @Jelle Mollema STYLING: @jaffithlevy MAKE-UP: @the_paulbenjamin GROOMING: Reuzel Grooming Tonic #reuzel #reuzelpomade #haircut #flowerpower #hairtransformation #hair #hairstyle #vidal #sassoon #pixie #bowlcut #vidalsassoon #buzzcut #hairmakeover #sixtiesunkhair #rocknroll #peaseandlove #pixy #peaseandlovecon #model #pixiehaircut #vintagehair
