QUESTION: If everyone followed this advice and it actually worked, could everyone in the world become “ungodly rich”? What would that even look like? Would it even be sustainable? Truthfully, if you have a roof over your head, even if you rent, and food to eat every day, you are already richer than much of the world. Yet so many of us still feel empty, like we are not enough and always need more. That is consumerism. We have been programmed to constantly chase more than we truly need. Jesus said: “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” — Luke 12:15 The Bible also says: “But godliness with contentment is great gain.” — 1 Timothy 6:6 Adam and Eve did not even need clothes before the fall. They already had everything they truly needed and walked with God without shame, comparison, or the pressures this world now creates through greed, conquest, pride, and endless wanting more. “If we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.” — 1 Timothy 6:8 God is not against abundance or blessing, but His idea of abundance is not the same as the world’s version of success, status, and never-ending consumption. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. — Isaiah 55:8 Money itself is not evil, but when people worship wealth, power, possessions, and status above God, society slowly loses peace, purpose, gratitude, and love. “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” — 1 Timothy 6:10 Maybe true richness is not having everything you want… Maybe it is already having what you truly need, knowing God, having peace, love, purpose, and learning to be thankful.
