@shaunsonexplains: Technically speaking, sashimi isn't sushi, and is it's own category, since it doesn't include rice. Nigiri comes from the Japanese word nigirizushi, which translates to “hand-pressed sushi”. By itself, nigiri translates to “two fingers” AKA bite size. You also use a two finger technique to press the rice. Sashimi means “pierced body”. Maki means “to roll”. Uramaki means “inside out”, AKA reverse maki roll.
