Somatic exercises are practices that emphasize the mind-body connection by promoting awareness of bodily sensations and movements. These exercises include techniques such as breathwork, meditation, yoga, tapping and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques). They are used for stress management and reduction by helping individuals become more attuned to their internal physical states, thus allowing for the release of tension and the processing of emotional experiences. Biologically, somatic exercises influence the autonomic nervous system, which regulates stress responses. By engaging in these practices, we can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, often referred to as the "rest and digest" system. This activation counteracts the "fight or flight" response, leading to decreased cortisol levels, reduced heart rate, and overall relaxation. Kundalini yoga is particularly effective as a somatic practice for releasing stuck energy and trauma stored in the nervous system. It combines physical postures, breathwork, meditation, and chanting to address both the physical and energetic aspects of the body. The practice of Kundalini yoga helps activate and balance the body's energy centers (chakras), facilitating the movement of energy throughout the body. This holistic approach can help release deeply stored emotional and physical tension, promoting healing and stress reduction. Through its integrated techniques, Kundalini yoga not only supports the release of trauma but also enhances overall emotional resilience and well-being.
