you can use normal dishwashing soap to clean your cast iron as long as it isn't a lye based soap

it's absolutely insane not to wash your cast iron. the reason people didn't wash them back in the day was that old soap contained lye and lye destroyed your seasoning. modern soap doesn't have lye

People of the world, wash your cast iron, make sure you dry it all the way, then rub some grease/oil on it...easy peasy

They only say you're not supposed to clean them because soap used to contain lye and it would strip off the seasoning on cast iron pans. Nowadays it's absolutely fine to use fairy liquid on them. 👌
