@cbsmornings: Ten-year-old Nylah Anderson died in 2021 after taking part in a “blackout” challenge, which went viral on TikTok. Now, her mother is suing the social media company. The outcome of the case could expose social media platforms to a wave of legal challenges. #news #tiktok #socialmedia
This was around when I was a kid, pre-tiktok, kids just did it and called it the "knockout challenge" I don't think it even was an internet trend. I wonder if that changes any of the liability?

I remember this challenge and it was going around school, not social media (all we had was MySpace, maybe beginning fb), when I was a teen.

I mean, it’s not really a challenge that specifically for TikTok I remember years ago there is pretty much a similar challenge, but TikTok wasn’t even a thing yet pretty much years ago the challenge -

im so sorry for her loss, but tiktok is. 13+ app, if she was under 12 she wasnt supposed to be on here, let alone the fact that ive never heard of that challenge and cant even find it online. she likely heard it from smb at school and looked it up

I’ve scrolled through TikTok for a while now. Never once saw this challenge. I’m gonna say this was probably something a kid mentioned at school and she looked it up to try it.

Am I the only one who’s parents literally went through my phone until I was like 16 to make sure everything was good. It is a parents responsibility to always know stuff like this. It’s simple you either monitor or you don’t let them have access to it

How can they check it was the algorithm feeding it to her, and not her searching it up?

This is horrific & I am so very sorry for her loss. Beyond awful. But this lawsuit, in this context, doesn't make sense.

I’m so sorry. She was beautiful. I hate to hear this. Here’s my question—how will tiktok know if a child is watching videos or an adult? Plus should have also had stronger parental control settings
