I’ve used construction adhesive like liquid nails or wood glue. Structural caulking works too.

It’s better then not having the caulk, but if you’re going to do this use vukem sealant & wipe away with solvent rag.

That product is gold. Doesn’t shrink - outside or inside… paintable… all the things. Worth the extra dollar.

There’s way better caulk for exterior applications that is paintable. Alex Flex ain’t it……

I’m surprised nobody said it… Pro Tip… use pressure treated lumber when installing outdoors. Paint doesn’t add that much protection.
