I knew a cat who refused to drink HIS water and would only drink from other people’s cups, so his owners would leave people cups of water out specifically for him. He thinks he’s being naughty lol

That's actually a thing you should do! Putting bowls everywhere so they can choose. Cats usually don't trust standing water

Cats do this only because they like to drink only fresh water. So his cup is dirty because he knows that a person will pour himself only fresh water
