As a first time cat owner too, my cat is black too and his name was Vincent when I got him 😂. I didn’t like Vincent so his legal name now is Morbid Allan Poe 😂

Just keep working on calling him his name and reward with treats if he comes over. My cats old owner said “she’s a cat she doesn’t know her name”I gave her a badass name and she comes running to me
