@blitzphd: #stitch with @Theist Brooks By the way, the paper I'm talking about by Steve Carlip is "How to Hide a Cosmological Constant." A fascinating read! #stem #Science #physics #cosmology #theism #finetuning #debunked
No fine tuning argument is at all relevant. A universe with life (like the one we’re in) has a 100% chance to posses the necessary properties for life

Wow, it’s almost like, if the universe wasn’t tuned perfectly for life, we wouldn’t be here to see that it was

Theistic arguments will forever revolve around "This is too unlikely, so I will declare that the more likely scenario is that an omnipresent, ever powerful being that controls everything did it." 💀

I'm just imagining how someone could look at this vast void filled with ionizing radiation and think "this was designed for life."

I find it funny how the argument is always “it’s too perfect not to be intelligent design” as if they have asked creation itself to what degree of detail things can or can’t be naturally formed

People say the universe is “fine tuned for life” if that is so then why isn’t life everywhere? Why can we only observe it (so far) in an absolute minuscule portion of the universe?

with billions of galaxies, one planet in a single solar system was bound to have the exact constants for life to be possible

I don’t believe that science can prove the existence of God. I am a Christian, I just don’t think there is any actual physical evidence. I think to have proof of God would render having faith in God completely pointless because he would have been proven to exist, which isn’t the point of faith

Mike :
he’s point still stands as in other constants still exist and calibrate in such a way so form everything. Saying the univ is a mess and happenstance is willful blindness nd debating in bad faith.

Fine tuning as an argument just doesn't work. If something is possible, given a potentially infinite universe with a potentially infinite amount of time end it's not a matter of if something will-

Fine tuned argument doesn’t make sense simply by the fact that we don’t have other universes to compare to. How would we determine our universe is fine tuned with zero other examples?

This is a name :
we can't say the universe is fine tuned because we have a sample size of 1. to say definitively we would need a much larger sample size to compare variables between them all and see how likely life is

The whole it’s oddly perfect idea is silly to me. Of course it’s perfect, because we are here? For all we know, the whole universe has been trying to create a perfect living condition (pt1)

The fine-tuning argument can be rephrased as:
"The observer's influence, C_i(x,t), is precisely tuned to select the specific outcomes we observe in our universe, suggesting a deliberate design/intent

Queenside Rook 🍉 :
There's also the argument that of course we live in a universe that supports life, we can only exist in such a universe. Even if the constants are probabilistic, that probability is irrelevant
