@kirby.alice12: I’m sure the fanfic is incredible though, which almost makes it worth it #hotd #houseofthedragon #rhaenyratargaryen #alicenthightower #targaryen
fully agree that that scene is going used to be to plant future misunderstanding plot lines, which is my biggest issue with the show by far. like why is everything an accident? can they make choices?

they have been enemies longer that hey have been friends. It's wild that there's any love left between them

Also aegon didn’t want to usurp rhaenera until alicent said hell die if he doesn’t

Watching that final scene just felt so weird after watching Alicent spend a majority of her life in complete opposition to everything Rhaenyra represents

I'm a gigantic rhaenicent shipper but I fully agree with the points, I feel like the ship is conceptually great but the execution is not the best a good chunk of the time

I honestly think they still should have went the stepmother rought. After Aemma dies Alicent good have been the big sister/motherly role during the following years of her mothers death and then 1/2

I think too much happened between the two of them for them to still be at this yearning point of "we're in different sides but still love you" like alicent ran towards Rhaenyra's son with a knife (1)

I think making them friends in S1 worked to make them becoming enemies more impactful, but they should have followed this path in S2 instead of insisting they can still recover their relationship

u just don’t get it the toxicity is the most realistic part

I agree w/ you. But also, I think 1 of the reason why it doesn't work is that Alicent's charactarization is rly fickle.+

Honestly the only way they can make it work legitimately is having Alicent in on Larys taking Aegon out of KL. Sure it’s kinda lazy and the convo in general didn’t need to happen but it’s fixable

I respect it but unfortunately I’m always a Rhaenicent through and through

To me, it all goes back to the fact that the build up to the Dance should have been two seasons not one

the prophecy and Rhaenicent both became shackles of this series, weighting in down instead of uplifting

like I'm not rooting for them individually but conceptually it is heartbreaking to see someone devoted to someone they can't ever truly go back to

I think it’s underdeveloped, but I don’t think it’s uniquely underdeveloped. They simply spent far too little time building the relationship dynamics of this family, and it’s really hurting the show.

i think it truly only works if alicent was made into an established villain instead of a morally grey character conflicted between her support of aegon/otto and her longing to rhaenyra. the moment (1)

they absolutely could have kept the subtext but after the death of lucerys and jahaerys there is no way for that love to bring them together again… it’s lost at that point, they could be shown

I agree with everything you said but Alicent being willing to sacrifice Aegon is very much in character for her. She feels guilty about it, but her love for her children is overhyped.

I also think Alicents choice wouldn’t bother me so much if they didn’t spend so much of S2 humanizing Aegon. She chooses to sacrifice him at arguably his most sympathetic.

Again. Agree with you 100%. The prophecy and Rhaenicent being by the core of this story were fundamental writing mistakes

it’s so bizarre that they seemed to have retconned (almost) their whole relationship from s1 like. sure the first 2 eps blah blah but, after the time jump, they were really, really cruel to each other

pretty sure it 100% is misunderstanding fuel to justify numerous dungeon interrogation scenes next season to give alicient something to do after the KL takeover happens.

i feel like the writers saw the chemistry between the actors + the fan interest in s1 and decided to shift the conflict around to make this fit when it doesn’t make sense in this context

i feel like alicent going to rhaenyra in the end is also motivated by her desire to save halaena?? not just to be her friend again
