My YouTube video this week has been in the making for almost a year. It’s the conclusion to a video you may have watched the beginning of, which shows myself throwing and trimming an angular vase that’s made with iron spangles wedged into the stoneware. Well, this video shows the entire process, from beginning to end, and even the two additional reduction firings and layers of yellow ochre iron oxide. So, if you’d like to find out more about how I mix that concoction to save pots I don’t particularly like, then I recommend watching this! (You can find a link to the fully narrated, half-hour long film, via the link in my profile’s biography) I’m not entirely sure I like the pot either, although it’s worth mentioning that the metallic surface it ends up having so incredibly difficult to capture on video. These types of pots are really worth seeing in-person, as they’re so iridescent, almost mirror-like in places, whilst also appearing matte and rusty, in others. I hope you enjoy this week’s video! It’s been a challenge gathering all this footage and editing it down into a more streamlined step-by-step process but I think it’s a more cinematic film as compared to those I normally create, with shots of the studio, the inclement weather to signify the passing of seasons and short clips of Ciro’s playful behaviour and distraction. #vase #oddlysatisfying #asmr #craft #pottery
