New Garden Update! 👨🏼‍🌾🌼🌱 It’s already been 6 months since I started converting this unloved old allotment space, into a thriving and biodiverse ecological vegetable garden! And even though it’s been one of the hardest starts to a growing season I can remember, I’m really happy with the progress so far! 😊🐝🦔🌱 At the beginning of the year I started by setting up permanent, no-dig beds that now are filled with a diverse mix of edible plants, herbs and flowers. 🥦🌼🌱 I’ve sown dense poly cultures, planted annual flowers and vegetables as well as many perennial plants, fruit bushes and trees. 🌳 To attract pollinators Ive sown and planted mixed floral borders and have left some wilder areas too. 🌸🐝 I set up a green house where I sow all of my plants from seed and that protects them until they are ready to be planted out. 🌱 And built and a poly tunnel, that is now full of rare and exciting varieties. 🍆🥒🌽 There were many overgrown areas around the garden, so I cleared one of them and set up pallet compost bays to create compost for my growing beds and that has a roof and gutter which is part of my off grid water catchment systems. ♻️ I cleared another unkept area and created a wildlife pond in a barrel which is already home to frogs and toads. 🐸 And as welcoming wildlife is so important to a healthy garden, I also set up a wildlife mansion with a living roof, log piles and put up bird houses and feeders, all of which are already increasing the garden’s above ground biodiversity, drawing in predatory insects, birds and even hedgehogs which help with natural pest control. 🦔🐦‍⬛🐝 Below ground biodiversity is also increasing now that the soil is mulched and protected. 🪱 I hope you enjoyed having a look around and let me know how your seasons been so far? 😊🌱 #gardening #gardeningtips #transformation #vegetablegarden #gardenproject
