2004 was the first election I was really cognizant of and I didn’t realize until recently how close it was. Like 2016 and 2020, if ~40,000 votes in a few states go the other way Kerry would have won!

And let's not forget the major reason Bush won the popular vote in 04 is cuz the precedent at the time was as a country you stand behind and give bipartisan support to the president during wartime

the only way republicans ever win the popular vote again is if they adopt democratic policies

And 04 should have a big asterisk next to it given how amazingly awful the media was after 9/11, not holding Bush accountable for failure after failure after lying about all said failures.

If that trend was reversed The electoral college would be gone cause Fox and right wing media would scream about it 24/7 and their base voters would demand change. They would yell fraud and attack system. Dems shrug and say oh well, that’s the constitution.

We need 1 million democrats to move Texas and end this farce once and for all. If Texas goes blue the electoral college means nothing

To win a majority they’d have to change their policies which their owners won’t allow

Without Gerrymandering and the Electoral college, there is no GOP. They can’t try to win the majority w/o losing their base…

And then the flip side of that evaluation of the GOP is that dems have to stay more in the center and cast wider nets because they need well over 50% of the popular vote

The majority of voters in the whole country support democrats. Unfortunately, the majority of voters in each state don’t, and in our system states vote for the federal leader.

2018 +2S -35H
2020 1:1 Pres 0:2 Popular -3S +16H
2022 -1S +10H (no "Red Tsunami")
Total 1:1 Pres 0:2 Popular -4S -14H
