@emsavenger: Replying to @brenn_emtp EMS is fairly limited in how it can respond to status epilepticus. For most services the most they carry in their bag of tricks are benzodiazepines. So what can we do when the seizures won't stop? What other resort races are available to us? #fyp #Paramedictok #paramedicsoftiktok #medicsoftiktok #medictok #emtsoftiktok #emstok #Paramedic #paramedics #firstresponders #firstrespondertok #firstrespondersoftiktok #firefightertok #firefightersoftiktok #paramedicstudent #emtstudent #emstiktok #emergencymedicine #ambulance #ambulancetok #911 #paramedicstudentsoftiktok #emtstudent #emtstudents #emtstudentsoftiktok #nursetok #nursesoftiktok #nurse #nurse #rntok #rnsoftiktok #CriticalCare #CriticalCareParamedic #CriticalCareParamedicsoftiktok #CriticalCareTok #CriticalCareofTikTok #FlightParamedicsoftiktok #FlightParamedictok #FPC #CCPC #Firemen #FiremenofTikTok #firemanTok #FireMedic #FireMedics #FireMedicsofTikTok #cardiacarrest #OHCA #resuscitation #FOAM #FOAMED #FOAMEMS #12lead #12leadecg #12leadekg #Cardiology
My son has epilepsy it's controlled with medication now and I've often wondered if carrying the rescue nasal spray like we have would be beneficial on the truck...im only EMR so

First, I'd apply hi-flow O2 and consider BVM ventilation. We can't do RSI in field in CA., either. Our air resources are limited so not always an option.

We’ve got a boatload of benzos and ketamine on the heli. If 2 grams of ketamine and 40 of versed doesnt break their seizure for long enough to get to the hospital, Idk if keppra or anything else will

I believe only one county here in GA allows RSI my county (Long County) is currently trying to get approval. We already have approval for plavix and heparin for more hospital stemi protocol

HEMS is a great resource if you have a long transport and space to land them. Some areas, HEMS is not a an effective resources due to proximity of hospitals and landing pads for HEMS eg Oakland CA

What’s the argument against Valium? One service I work for carries it and still might use it as a first line medicine and I wanna know why it’s not more commonly used

We can give 1x 10mg IM or 2 x 5mg IN/IV/IO versed for seizure before we have to call for med control. Additional 10mg IM or 2x5mg IN/IV/IO is allowed upon MC request.

I'm thankful my service carries Keppra. It's not used super often, but it's great when you need it.

If GA doesn't allow medics to RSI, how would flight take the airway? Can the flight nurse do it, instead?

We are fortunate that in our area, we have field Physicians available. They carry medications that are available in the ER. Also, with the proximity of hospitals, ground transport is best option.
