We have this in Sweden sometimes, but the employer has to pay your salary during the time you're not allowed to work for any competitor, so you're basically not working and have a full salary

intellectual property clauses in contracts can get pretty crazy too. a lot of them have blanket inclusions for anything you do off the clock while employed by the company as well
