We can’t teach the full idea to kids who don’t even know what a chromosome is or what it does yet. Everything is oversimplified, it’s the only way to introduce general topics to young kids.

It’s my understanding that there’s not really a single definition of ‘Species’ that is true in any context. This is a great demonstration of the fluidity of evolution/life/speciation

Also education has not kept up with science. I recall being told when I was in Uni it was impossible for Neanderthal/homo sapiens to cross breed. We now know better but people who didn’t follow the scientific updates still believe the old standards.

With insects the ability to have intercourse changes with time. So genetically they may still may be able to breed but physically cannot. Biology is nuance!

Yes. Exactly. Science is messy. One misconception that I see repeated frequently is the distinction between a population vs an individual. Population genetics is a whole field of study.
