A lot of it is a baby’s first fandom problem. I feel like a lot of people on booktok are just dipping their toes into fandom / online communityfor the first time and don’t quite know how to act right.

I disagree on ur statement that it cannot be a legit community. Book Youtube has been successful with book fandoms for decades with very little drama. BookTok drama is solely just rooted in this app

I buy the algorithm argument and money, BUUUT I was part of the first round of book bloggers in 2006-9 and a lot of these arguments are recycled from THEN! Especially after Twitter. They're cyclical

I think it doesn't help that even tho we all like reading some folks genuinely have made it their personalities and don't have other hobbies so when someone doesn't like the same thing they view it

it’s how there’s a larger kpop fandom but other than liking a kpop group, there’s really nothing else that connects the individual fandoms and there’s ALWAYS a fanwar and fighting

I think people just perceive booktok in this way but every community I’ve seen on the internet has similar levels of drama. Dogtok is a mess half the time, the beauty community argues incessantly.

I think the real issue is that people outside the community have the opportunity to throw in their 2 cents. because yeah there was drama in on Booktube. but it was contained.

All communities have drama, people just don't see most of it. I had no idea people were bringing guns to botanical gardens and stealing rare plants until I joined the rare plant community.
