@oliveyousomatcha: My partner and I care give her her elderly mom. She has dementia. Getting her to drink enough water is often a chore. We constantly have to remind her throughout the day to stay on top of it. Making sure she is properly hydrated is super important. So I’ve come up with a few tricks to help ensure she’s getting enough liquid. My first trick, the handsome man mug. For Christmas, I made her a mug in Canva and had it printed. I took her favorite character from Grey’s Anatomy, Dr. McDreamy, and some handsome men from her beloved Hallmark movies. The text on the mug literally tells her to drink her water. And the mug actually works! She gets a kick out of it, and she glances at her mug more often because of those handsome faces. A second trick that I use is adding a lot of liquid to her meals. I add liquid to her meals for two reasons. First of all, it makes her meals easier to chew which she loves. But then it also makes sure that she is more hydrated. Depending on the meal, I use broth, veggie broth, coconut milk, oat milk, just to name a few. Sometimes I make the broth from scratch using leftover veggie scraps and chicken bones. This makes it extra flavorful and uses things I would otherwise throw away. But when I don’t have enough time during the week, I just go for the store-bought stuff. I always grab low sodium broth. And I feel like the absolute best is bone broth. Because bone broth is lower and sodium and higher in protein. The third trick I used to ensure our elderly parent is properly hydrated, is fruit! Fruit is naturally full of water. I add fruit to her breakfast every morning. And I also add it to her desserts and serve it to her as a snack. If you are a caregiver for an elderly family member who also does not like to drink her water. Try giving these tricks a try. ##caregiver##elderlycare##hydration##dementia

Interestingly enough, with one of my chronic illnesses I basically have to do the opposite of this. I have a water limit and try to keep my meals as dry as possible!
