since I was 15 my moms used it as a form of control and still to this day (I'm almost 30) uses threatening to make me go to the psych ward and medication to control me

I hate how it is today with diagnosis. It’s great that we r talking about it n it’s not taboo like it was. But sometimes kid is just a kid

I’ve had this with a few patients when the parents have a “kid with behavioral issues,” have them admitted, and suddenly go on family vacation without telling the kid🙁😢

I worked in the children’s psych center where I live in Buffalo New York. The majority of the children did not belong there, their parents needed a break or trying to get extra money.

I worked in a PRTF for a while… you could definitely tell which kids actually needed help and which kids were just there because their parents didn’t want to deal with them.

My mom did this to me & it finally got to a point where she was told that none of the wards would take me anymore. So she needed to do the paperwork to admit me to a residential treatment program.

Of course, you have the parents that go the other way as well. My mom was one of these. She KNEW I had mental health issues but REFUSED to get me any help. I had to learn coping mechanisms on my own.

I was told that mental health professionals try not to diagnose children before they are 18. I know there are exceptions but this is what I learned, years ago.

Sounds like a my mom. She wasn’t diagnosed yet but she is now. Schizophrenic but she was actively projecting on me at just 11 getting me meds trying to say I was schizophrenic. I’m not. Been tested.
