@tomdraperacting: Are you looking to build more emotional depth in your performances? Listen to this unconventional advice I once got from an acting teacher, and let me know your method. It’s fascinating how many different paths actors take to unlock true emotional depth on stage or in front of the camera. One of my mentors, the great Ernie Martin, who was once the artistic director of The Actors Studio West, had a unique perspective on this. He used to say, "If you have to hang yourself by your toes in the closet to make it happen, I don’t care." His point? The method doesn't matter as long as it gets results. I've seen actors pull from personal trauma, childhood memories, or use the "as if" technique to connect with their roles. Whatever works for you is the right method, and there’s no one-size-fits-all in acting. The key is to explore, be open to experimentation, and find what resonates with your emotional truth.
